The long and storied history of horse racing in the United States dates back more than 150 years. Although the sport has grown, which in my opinion has turned into big business world-wide, it has not always been smooth. However, it has stood the test of time despite the many issues that continue to plague it. It has become a venue for legalized gambling, which although helped to facilitate its development, simultaneously contributed to a majority of the problems that exist in horse racing today. The most serious of these problems is “corruption”.
Race fixing, doping and gambling in horse racing has often been the focus of media related reports on corruption in the back-stretch involving trainers, jockeys, drivers, owners, veterinarians and the Mob.
Another form of corruption that is never reported is the white-collar crimes and abuses committed by race track owners and politically appointed people who are put into high administrative positions and in almost every case, a position of incompetence.
These are topics that Larry will be discussing on his podcasts and is more than happy to have anyone with an opposing opinion come on as a guest.
